Echoes of a Journey: Issue 7, July, 2026

A Big Move

At the end of June, after a whirlwind of interviews and sickness, I landed a dream job.

Truthfully, I hadn’t expected a first interview, let alone a second or a third. I took the first one with a fever of 103. By the third, a week later, I was recovering from a nasty reaction to a wasp sting.

Despite the chaos and doubt, here I am, preparing to move to a new city, in a new state, to do something I love: sound engineering and design. I’ve been out of the game for a while now, which is part of why the whole thing caught me off guard. I applied on a whim, just to see. It paid off. I’m excited and nervous in equal measure. The imposter syndrome is already creeping in, but I’ll do my best to keep it at bay.

The relief of having a job is worth whatever’s eating at the back of my mind. I’d resigned myself to the idea that I’d never find a job with a decent salary or benefits. I searched for two years while moonlighting as a college professor. Which I loved, don’t get me wrong. But I was an adjunct, making little pay and working my ass off to keep a positive attitude for my students. Eventually that life stopped working, no matter how much I enjoyed guiding students on their creative adventures.

So, a few months ago I made a bold declaration: I wouldn’t pursue another semester as an adjunct. Instead, I’d double down on streaming and writing while searching for a job that could support both.

Ironic, isn’t it? I’m not sure how much time I’ll have for either now. I’ll still push to get my streaming career rolling and my Patreon thriving, but my new job is live theatre. It will dominate my time and energy. But between the shows and late nights, I’ll hop on Twitch to share games, or maybe take a day to work on whatever novel I’m losing myself in. The dream of creative independence lingers. They will always be there. I just get to play with sound again.

And for now, that’s worth pursuing a new journey.
